Located in the tiny hamlet of Hagley, just off the A1 highway about 25mins drive from Launceston, Hazelbrae Hazelnuts is a wonderful destination for the whole family that flies way under the radar!
My wife and I first heard about Hazelbrae on the Tasmanian foodie grapevine. Some had fallen in love with the beautiful gardens and lush, grassy avenues between the trees, while others raved about the delicious hazelnut-infused products and other tasty treats in their fantastic farm shop.
We quickly added it to our ever-growing list of ‘must try’ Tassie foodie options, and made sure we stopped by on our way back home from a road trip to Cradle Mountain.

What an absolute delight!
Christie and Michael have transformed this rural property into one of Tassie’s best destinations for the whole family.
It is a beautiful farm, surrounded by row upon row of hazel trees that look stunning in autumn when the leaves start to turn colour.
There are a few wonderful ways in which you can enjoy Hazelbrae, but my absolute favourite is to enjoy a picnic on their sprawling farm grounds!
It is so easy to organise, and it makes for the BEST afternoon with your family or friends.
Their farm store is jam-packed with all sorts of delicious treats, including not just their own nut products, but also a huge range of other locally-sourced gourmet goodies like croutons, lavosh, Shelduck Farm oatcakes, antipasto meats, cheeses from Southern Sky Cheese, Tam O’Shanter pickles and jams, A Pinch Of Tasmania seasoning and salt pouches (the perfect pairing with hazelnuts and cheese!), hot smoked salmon from 41 Degrees South Tasmania, and house made salad and antipasto pots.
Got a sweet tooth? You will love their fudge and rocky road, slices and cookies!
Tassie wines are sold by the bottle, and they are very happy to provide you with dining utensils, glasses, and plates/boards all in a pretty picnic basket.
Self-guided tours are also a great option, taking you through the orchard and gardens where you will discover information plaques detailing the history and stories behind this amazing farm.
Visit Hazelbrae Hazelnuts, purchase a self-guided tour for $10, and when you mention the Lap of Tasmania you will receive:
Don’t worry about your children either, as the on-site playground – complete with its own tractor slide and giant hazelnuts – will put huge smiles on their little faces!
Even if you don’t choose to do a picnic, you can still enjoy free tastings of their products in the store, and check out their ever-growing nut-cracker collection from all around the world.
Open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am – 4pm, this is your perfect day out in the country, and whether you are based in Launceston or passing through on your way to/from Cradle Mountain, a visit to Hazelbrae Hazelnuts is guaranteed to be a highlight of your Lap of Tasmania!
Such a lovely place to come with kids! Friendly staff, nice play area and lawn, great food. We also loved exploring in the hazelnut trees. Highly recommended!
